On the morning of Thursday, August 8, we received three applications, and later in the day, one more from clients whose children had gone to a camp in Portugal, where the organizers have disappeared without a trace, leaving the children unable to return home. We immediately began to deal with the situation by arranging transportation for these children to the airport and booking flights back home. Currently, the three children who had Balcia travel insurance and were reported to us in the morning are now back in Latvia, while the fourth will return today on a flight from Barcelona.
We promptly informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consumer Rights Protection Center about the situation, offering our expert support in organizing a repatriation flight to ensure that the other children, who are not our clients, can also return home as quickly as possible.
We urge parents to carefully evaluate the companies or organizations to which they entrust their children before allowing them to attend camps or organized trips. We hope that such situations will not occur in the future, but if they do, it is crucial to contact your insurer immediately to facilitate prompt assistance. Currently, we do not have information on which insurance company covered the travel group. Based on the information provided by parents, we know that Balcia is the only insurer that has recognized this situation as an insured event and has made initial payments, including covering the costs of transfers and flights.
