What does a summer at Balcia look like?
For 22 interns this year, it meant joining teams across Latvia, Estonia and Poland, getting involved in real projects, learning how the insurance business works from the inside — and, of course, experiencing a little bit of the Balcia spirit along the way.
This summer, we welcomed 18 interns to our HQ in Latvia, two in Estonia and two in Poland, with interns joining teams across People & Culture, Marketing, Sales, Claims, Underwriting, Business and Partnerships, and Accounting.
But an internship at Balcia is about more than simply joining a team. It’s about working on real projects, gaining hands-on experience and seeing how your work contributes to the bigger picture — while becoming part of the team, meeting new people and experiencing what it’s really like to be a Balcian.
- From Day One: Getting Into the Balcia Spirit
The summer kicked off with our intern onboarding event, bringing our new interns together and giving them a chance to get to know Balcia, each other and the people they would be working with. With a few unexpected facts revealed along the way (yes, we have a few Balcians who have missed a flight — and a few motorcycle owners too), it didn’t take long for everyone to start feeling at home.
- Real Work, Real Responsibility
Just like last year, our interns didn't spend their summer sitting on the sidelines, they took on projects that contributed to the work happening at Balcia every day. Different teams, different challenges, different perspectives — but one common approach: learning by doing.
Because sometimes the best way to understand insurance isn't through a textbook. It's by asking questions, getting involved and figuring things out along the way.
"I had the opportunity to work on real projects, develop my own analysis framework, and present my findings to product managers and Veiko, the Head of Balcia’s Estonian branch. My research also supported Group Product Manager Andrius in preparing to launch a new commercial property insurance product in Estonia."

- A Summer That Went Beyond the Office
Being an intern at Balcia isn't only about what happens behind a laptop.
This summer, our interns were right in the middle of the action, helping bring Balcia events and activations to life — VentspilsGGFest, Red Bull Showrun, City Combo Stunt and many more. From getting things ready behind the scenes to being on the ground (or literally hanging on for dear life) during the events, they got hands-on experience of what it takes to turn an idea into a real Balcia experience.

- Wellness? Interns Got It Covered!
And when it came to bringing the team together, there was plenty happening at HQ too.
Our P&C interns helped bring Wellness Month to life, organising activities to help Balcians recharge, get moving and enjoy some time together. The month was packed with ways to look after both body and mind — from morning runs to yoga on the Balcia terrace, MyFitness Pilates class, breathing class, Borealis massage chairs and Rudy's kombucha masterclass, alongside other activities throughout the month. We also welcomed VADC blood donation e-bus to the office, giving Balcians an opportunity to do something good for others. Because after all, Health is Wealth.
