From Theory to Action: A Day in the Life of Insuretech
The day began with a mini-conference, giving our guests an overview of what makes Balcia different: from our approach to risk and innovation to how we’re reimagining insurance for the digital generation.
But this wasn’t about sitting and listening. It was about diving in.
Our young participants took on the ultimate group challenge: design an actual insurance product. That’s right — they worked across every department lens:
-
Assessed the business potential
-
Developed an IT approach
-
Covered compliance and legal angles
-
Explored claims strategy
-
And created a go-to-market plan!
In just a few hours, they got to experience what many professionals do over months. The creativity, collaboration, and courage they showed were seriously impressive.
Music, Mentors & Magic Moments
After a well-earned (and delicious) lunch, we surprised our guests with a live performance by rising hip-hop artist #Revolūcija. Because learning should feel energizing, and creativity comes in many forms.
Later in the afternoon, it was pitch time. And the ideas? Let's just say we wouldn’t be surprised if some of these teams became actual product squads in the future.
Then came another highlight: a surprise visit from Raimonds Elbakjans, joined by 20 of his own Shadowers from Ghetto Games. His energy, stories, and mindset turned the closing moments into something truly unforgettable.
A Big Shoutout to the Balcia Crew
Behind every great experience is a passionate team. Thank you to our incredible mentors:
Jānis Lucaus, Ilgvars Girgensons, Kristiāna Valbe-Uzrauga, Eleonora Zelmene, Jolanta Lapa, Inga Kazakova! Your guidance turned inspiration into action!
And to our backstage stars:
Kristiāna Briede, Patricija Freivalde, Dace Silvonika, Laila Zamarite-Birzniece, Līga Liepiņa, and Daina Deruma. Thank you for the precision, planning, and passion that made the day seamless.
Why It Matters
Shadow Day isn’t just a one-off event. It’s a reflection of our belief that insurance can be exciting, people-first, and deeply impactful. If even one student walked away thinking,
“Hey… I could totally see myself in insuretech,”
then we’ve done our job.
Because the future of insurance isn’t written yet, and we’re inviting the next generation to help us write it!
