At Balcia, we believe that great things start with small gestures. That’s why in our calendar – alongside standard meetings and projects – you’ll also find… unusual holidays.
Sounds a bit silly? And yet, these are the moments that bring the team closer together and turn an ordinary day into something special.
Waffles instead of presentations
When the smell of freshly baked waffles filled the office, no one was thinking about Excels or reports. We were celebrating Waffle Day, and the waffle maker became the most important work tool of the day. It was a moment of laughter, sweetness, and spending time together – something that stays in memory for a long time.
A dose of chocolate energy
Another unusual day was Chocolate Day. In theory – just a small accent. In practice – a huge boost of good energy. Science says that chocolate improves mood, and we’ll add from our experience that it also strengthens team bonds. Because nothing brings people together quite like breaking a chocolate bar in the office kitchen.
“I love these small celebrations because they break the routine. You walk into the office expecting just another day, and suddenly there’s waffles or chocolate waiting. It instantly lifts your mood and makes you feel connected to everyone around you.”
A Valentine’s breakfast
And what about Valentine’s Day? At Balcia, we couldn’t miss the chance to gather around one table. Instead of cliché cards, we organized a Valentine’s breakfast – full of warmth, conversations, and little surprises. A simple way to show that even at work, you can celebrate closeness and kindness.
The smell of cinnamon and the sound of popcorn
Sometimes, it’s the simplest treats that bring the biggest smiles. On Cinnamon Bun Day, the office filled with the sweet, comforting aroma of freshly baked rolls – the perfect companion to a morning coffee and a moment to slow down. Popcorn Day, on the other hand, turned the kitchen into a mini cinema corner. Bowls of crunchy popcorn appeared on desks, sparking spontaneous chats and laughter. These lighthearted celebrations reminded us that joy can come from the smallest details.
Why do we do this?
Because company culture isn’t only about strategies and procedures. It’s also about daily experiences, small rituals, and shared memories that make the team truly feel like part of something bigger.
“It’s not about the waffles or the chocolate. It’s about someone coming up with the idea, someone taking the time, and all of us being able to smile together. That builds an atmosphere you simply can’t buy.”
– as we often hear from our people
And there’s more to it than fun. These little breaks from routine spark conversations between colleagues who don’t usually work together, strengthen trust, and create a friendlier atmosphere. And when people feel more connected, collaboration and productivity in daily projects naturally improve.
At Balcia, we believe that joy at work isn’t a bonus – it’s a foundation. Because only when people feel good together can they achieve truly great things.
